Candidate screening

The Hillsborough Fire Action Committee is made up of the Principal Officers and Executive Board members of the Hillsborough County Fire Fighters. These individuals also serve as member of the screening committee for endorsement decisions. Candidate's seeking a political endorsement from the Hillsborough County Fire Fighters take part in a comprehensive procedure.

The endorsement procedure is a dynamic multi-step process with each candidate. The process may involve seeking input and information from internal and external sources, a completed questionnaire, an in-person interview with the candidate and thoughtful deliberation amongst the committee members. Upon a completed questionnaire being submitted, select candidates seeking an endorsement may be requested to interview with the screening committee. The candidate's responses assist us to make endorsement decisions and are used to highlight any distinctions between candidates to our PAC Committee.

It is a rare circumstance that we turn against those individuals who share our fundamental core position. This commitment to incumbents has been a hallmark standard since our beginning.

"Hillsborough County Fire Fighters represents more than 1,200 working men and women in Hillsborough County. This election cycle, the Local 2294 will determine who we feel best supports public safety issues and merits the firefighter’s endorsement. Local 2294 believes that Hillsborough County government’s core responsibility is to provide the essential services of public safety and health while maintaining an environment amenable to a prosperous life and livelihood for all citizens. In addition, we seek to continually improve the lives of our employees who serve the citizens of Hillsborough County by advocating for their well-being, market driven comparable benefits and the best in firefighter equipment, training & education. All we ask is that our local leaders recognize those needs and priorities as well."
